59: Technical Sergeant Luis Ali is a native Detroiter and is actively in involved in the revitalization in Detroit now. He joined the Air Force in 1995 and has served in the United States Air Force for 18 years. He became a Command and Control Emergency Actions Specialist coordinating air refueling missions and flight plans. From 1998-99 he was a flight following control specialist for the 640th Air Mobility Control Center at Howard AFB, PA. He was part of turning over control of the Panama Canal back to the Panamanian government. In 2004, Luis returned to Detroit and completed a 4 year skilled trade program through the Associated Builders & Contractors of Michigan and became a licensed electrician. TSgt Ali began AGI Construction in 2008 and it has evolved into a general contracting construction company for multi-residential and commercial projects. In 2008, TSgt Ali joined the Ohio Air National Guard with the 200th Rapid Engineering Deployable Heavy Operational Readiness Squadron Engineer (REDHORSE). This unit provides the Air Force with a highly mobile civil engineer response force to support contingency and special operations worldwide. TSgt Ali was deployed (2010) to Camp Dwyer, Afghanistan, where he was a team chief supervisor for heavy equipment operations. This project consisted of a runway and four aircraft hangers and was considered the largest construction project the military has done since the Vietnam era. Upon returning he has graduated the Veteran Entrepreneurship Program (VEP) program, which is an entrepreneur boot camp program partnered with the University of Florida and just recently, the Goldman Sachs 10kSB program. TSgt Ali, is ready to take his company to the next level by focusing on strategic planning and pursuing government contracting.
